What is Concrete
Concrete is a composite material made from the combination of aggregate and a cement binder. The most common form of concrete consists of Portland cement* as the binder, gravel and sand as the aggragates, and water.
Concrete does not solidify from drying after mixing and placement, the water reacts with the cement in a chemical process known as hydration. This water is absorbed by cement, which hardens, gluing the other components together and eventually creating a stone-like material.
*Note: Portland cement is a finely-ground powder produced by grinding Portland cement clinker (more than 90%), about a maximum of 5% gypsum which controls the set time and up to 5% minor constituents (as allowed by various standards).
